Life Insurance Paramed Exams
What to expect during the paramed exam
There's no telling how the insurance industry came up with the rather ominous term, "paramed" exam, but is nothing more than a simple series of tests used to determine your eligibility for life insurance along with your rating class.
Once you have spoken to a life insurance agent or company and have decided to purchase life insurance, a paramed will be scheduled.
During the paramed, a registered nurse will:
- Record your height and weight
- Check your blood pressure
- Obtain a blood sample
- Obtain a urine sample
- Listen to your heartbeat
- Ask you a series of medical questions about your current and past health
If you are an older person and/or applying for a significant amount of life insurance, you may also be required to submit to a few additional tests which may include:
- EKG
- Chest X-ray
- EKG on treadmill
What does a life insurance paramed blood and urine test check for?
The blood test will check your cholesterol, liver function, triglyceride level, HIV antibodies, PSAs (Prostate Specific Antigens which are often present in those who have developing prostate cancer), kidney disorder, presence of nicotine, blood sugar, and illegal drugs.
How long does a life insurance paramed exam take?
Usually only about 30 minutes or so, if that long.
